Dedicated to the memory of Nigel Finch

Nigel Finch passed away peacefully at Mountbatten Hospice early in the morning of Wednesday 3rd August 2022 with his friends by his side.

As many people were aware Nigel had battled with declining health these last eighteen months in his usual upbeat and uncomplaining way. He showed such strength and bravery and never gave in, even attending rehearsal as recently as the week before. We are so proud of him.

Nigel was a kind, tireless and hugely integral part of many of our lives, equally generous with his time and with his huge musical talent. He will leave a big empty space at the piano and in our hearts and we will all miss him dreadfully.

However, he would not want us to be down but to push on with the same optimism and courage that he showed in everything.

Nigel, you were a part of our extended family for 40 years in Christchurch, through church, choirs, scouts, Gang Show, Gilbert & Sullivan, family and friendships. Moving to Canada I hadn't seen you for years, but I still remember you "doing" a rubiks cube in a matter of seconds in our living room, you recruiting the WHOLE family to be involved with Christchurch G&S from the very first year it began - being on stage (being directed like one of your planes!), in the orchestra pit, make-up, costuming and building stained glass windows in our house. The phrase "Goodnight Nigel" was uttered most nights when we were all still chatting past midnight. St George's church choir which you ran (and honestly made better than The Priory at the time) was one of your legacies and introduced me to choral singing, I suspect there are many Gang Show and scouting photos of you floating around too. We watched you graduate univeristy and become a Math Teach in Poole, which you hated. We saw you take the huge step towards Air Traffic Control and following that dream when you made that decision. We will forever be linked through your 40 years in our town and your relationships. Rest in Peace.
